Hughes A. Robinson III grew up in Philadelphia, spent years in Northern California, and has called South Jersey home for the past two decades. He built a career in technology — but the stories never stopped.

His debut novel, The Rooms We Leave Open, follows a bestselling author who returns to his small Virginia hometown for his father’s seventy-fifth birthday and is drawn into the fight to save a condemned building with civil rights history. It’s a story about family, forgiveness, and the courage it takes to stop running long enough to let people love you.

Hughes writes about the places that shape us, the people who carry us, and the choices that define us — not the dramatic ones, but the quiet, ordinary decisions to show up one more day.

He is the father of three daughters — Alisha, Ashley, and Jade — who remain his greatest source of pride and inspiration.

The Rooms We Leave Open is his first novel. His second, A Promise She Couldn't Keep, is in progress.
